FCI Talladega is commonly known as the Federal Correctional Institution, Talladega. The facility is a medium-security federal prison in Alabama. The prison is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Adjacent to the Federal Correctional Institution, Talladega is a minimum-security satellite prison camp. The satellite prison camp houses male inmates. It is also operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
FCI Talladega opened their doors in 1979. The satellite prison camp opened in 1989. One notable incident that happened in FCI Talladega was in 1991 when a riot broke out. It was started by nearly 120 Cuban prisoners. The incident went on for 10-days. They captured hostages. The reason behind this was they were trying to prolong their deportation back to Cuba. It took nearly 200 trained agents to end this riot. All hostages were safe and rescued while the 120 Cuban prisoners were taken into custody.
FCI Talladega is situated 50 miles away from Birmingham and 100 miles away from the Atlanta.
FCI Talladega is a federal prison. The easiest way to lookup an inmate in federal prisons is going to the BOP website. They have a database where you can search all federal inmates.
Inmates can also receive letters, books, newspapers, and magazines. Books, newspapers, and magazines need to be sent to the prison from the publisher. Sites like Amazon can do this for you with little to no effort. Books will need to be paperback books. Hardcover books are not permitted.
Inmates cannot receive any unused stamps, envelopes, or writing paper. These items are available in the commissary. Letters should not contain any stains from lipstick or cologne. Letters cannot also have glitter either. If these items are found upon inspection of mail, your mail will be discarded or returned to sender, if you have a return address on the envelope.

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.
The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.
Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.
All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.
