Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

There are also many opportunities to be taken advantage of to afford the proposal of legal documents when behind bars.

All procedures for legal activities can be located here.

Visitation

Inmates can also have visitors. The inmate will have to add you to their visitor approved list. This list will require you to undergo a background check.

This process can take a few weeks typically. Once you are on the approved list, you will be able to visit on Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 8pm to 2pm.

All adults visiting will need to have their government ID ready to go into the visitation area.

How Often Can I Visit?

This will depend on what rank the inmate is. There are three ranks:

Prison Life

FCI Dublin has three buildings exclusively for housing. All building has 2 housing pods. Each pod has between 56 to 61 doubled celled units.

The facility also has Special Housing Units. Special Housing Units are where prisoners go who have broken the prison rules. They are kept in this unit under a highly restrictive routine. Prisoners that are in the Special Housing Units will spend much more cell time than the inmates in general population. The Special Housing Unit has 16 one-person cells available.

The detention center, which is right off the Special Housing Unit has 122 cells available. This not including three cells that can be used for inmates that will be placed in the Special Housing Unit.

The satellite camp has 2 housing buildings for their inmates. The housing pods are all open bay and contain multiple occupancy cells. They can hold up to 328 inmates.

The prison itself is contained by two fences. There is a 10-foot gap in between them. The fences are 14 feet tall, both are chain linked and topped with razor wire. The facility also has electronic sensors to ensure all inmates stay inside the prison grounds.

What Services do FCI Dublin Offer?
