The California State Prison in Los Angeles County is a reception center and a long-term prison for convicted inmates. The inmates that are going through the intake process will only be at the facility for a very short amount of time.

Inmates cannot receive any packages from home. The only items that they can receive from home is their parole clothing and any authorized medical equipment. You will need to clearly mark the box as such or the box will be returned to sender.
Inmates can receive a care package once a quarter. The care package will have to be fulfilled and sent by an authorized vendor. You can find the list of all authorized vendors on the California Department of Corrections official website.
Inmates can also receive books, magazines, and newspapers. The books must be paperback. Hardcover books are not permitted. These items will need to be sent to the prison directly from the publisher.

Inmates in the California State Prison, Los Angeles County will need money for various things. They will need money to purchase personal hygiene products, entertainment, beverages, and food from the commissary. Inmates will also need money to use the telephones to call their loved ones.
The California State Prison, Los Angeles County provides the family and friends of the inmates three easy ways to deposit funds into their accounts.
There is no fee to use the LockBox service. This method provides a shorter holding time for those individuals that rather use a personal check, cashier’s check, or money order.
This option is the fastest option out of the three. The electronic fund transfer is a paid service; however, funds will be posted in the inmate’s account between 1 to 3 days.

There is not a fee to use this service. However, out of the three options, this is the slowest. Once the prison gets your check or money order, it will be subjected to a 30-day hold.
Inmates can receive visitors. However, you will need to call the California State Prison, Los Angeles County for their prison hours for each unit. All visiting hours for units will vary.
The visiting hours for inmates in general population is held on Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 8:30 am to 3 pm. These visits are contact visits.
For non-contact visits, meaning inmates in the administrative segregation and reception center inmates are by appointment only. You can schedule your appointment on the VPASS website.
You will be able to visit inmates at the California State Prison, Los Angeles County on the select days above. Inmates that have disciplinary action against them will not be permitted visitation. Keep in mind that the prison can terminate visiting without any notice.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
