FCI Englewood is commonly known as the Federal Correctional Institution, Englewood. The prison is a federal prison in Colorado. FCI Englewood houses low-security male inmates. The facility is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. 

Adjacent to the FCI Englewood prison, is a satellite prison camp. This satellite camp is home to minimum-security male inmates. Also, on property is an administrative detention center. 

FCI Englewood is situated in the unincorporated part of Jefferson County, Colorado. FCI Englewood is just off Kipling Street and U.S. Route 285. 

The prison was named after Englewood, Colorado, but it has a Littleton address. However, it is not even in Littleton, Colorado either. 

The original prison opened their doors back in 1940. The satellite camp to be in 1990. FCI Englewood is also a part of the Sex Offender Management Program. Nearly 40 percent of the population housed in FCI Englewood has either been convicted of a sexual crime in the past or present. 

FCI Englewood houses male inmates. They currently have 889 inmates at the main campus and another 164 male inmates at the satellite camp. 

The prison was originally designed to house nearly 1,151 male inmates. The FCI Englewood houses male inmates that are un-sentenced and sentences. 

The FCI Englewood is situated on 320 acres of land.

Do NOT send money to an inmate using the FCI Englewood address. All funds sent through the mail must be addressed to a processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. This applies to all Federal inmates, regardless of where they are incarcerated.

The last way to stay in touch with an inmate at FCI Englewood is through email. Email is also through Trulincs.

The email program is funded by the inmate trust fund, which is kept up with purchases from the commissary, the telephone service, and fees paid directly to Trulincs.

Your first day in prison, you are bombarded with a ton of information. One booklet you will be giving is the Admissions and Orientation (A&O) Handbook. 

This handbook will supply you with general information about the prison itself alongside the prison’s rules, programs, and regulations you will have to follow while you are serving out your sentence. 

It will be in your best interest to familiarize yourself with handbook as it is your responsibility to transition smoothly to prison life.

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions. 

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs. 

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop. 

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

Visitation

Inmates can also receive visitors. Before anyone will be permitted to visit an inmate, they must be on the inmates approved visitors list. After being placed on the approved list visitors over the age of 16 will have to supply a government ID. Minors under the age of 16 will not have to supply a government ID, but they will have to be accompanied by their legal guardian. 

Inmates can have 3 adult visitors at a given time. Children under the age of 16 are not included in this total.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.

The main campus at FCI Englewood has 2 housing units. The housing units here in the main campus is open dormitory style. They also have individual rooms too. Along with that, they also have a Special Housing Unit that holds those inmates that need to be secured.

The detention center also has 2 housing units. These housing units allow the inmates to roam freely throughout.

The satellite prison camp also has 2 housing units. The housing units at the satellite prison camp has cells that can houses 5 men.

When prisoners arrive at the facility, they will be checked out by the prison staff. The prison staff will ensure that the inmate is placed in the correct programs that he will benefit from. These programs can include the following:
