FCI Fort Dix is commonly referred to as the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix. The facility is a low-security federal prison in New Jersey. It houses male inmates only. It is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
FCI Fort Dix opened their doors back in 1992. The facility was designed to house nearly 4,800 male inmates. As of now, the facility only holds roughly 4,400 male inmates. There is 4,066 male inmates in the main campus and the remaining 335 male inmates in the satellite prison camp.
Adjacent to FCI Fort Dix is a minimum-security satellite prison camp that houses male inmates.

Do NOT send money to an inmate using the FCI Fort Dix address. All funds sent through the mail must be addressed to a processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. This applies to all Federal inmates, regardless of where they are incarcerated.

Your first day in prison, you are bombarded with a ton of information. One booklet you will be giving is the Admissions and Orientation (A&O) Handbook.

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.
The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.
Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.
All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.
Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

Inmates can receive visits from their family and friends too. You will need to be on their approved visitor list. Visitors over the age of 16, must present a government ID. Visitors under the age of 16, is not required to have a government ID. However, visitors under the age of 16, will need to be with their legal guardian.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.

FCI Fort Dix has eleven housing buildings. All housing buildings are set up to be dormitory style, except the Special Housing Unit. The dormitory rooms can house 2, 10, or 12 inmates, depending on the room.
The prison camp consists of two housing buildings. These housing buildings are also dormitory style as the main campus.
