Florida State Prison is commonly referred to as Raiford Prison. The facility is situated in the unincorporated part of Bradford County, Florida.

Florida State Prison was once known as “Florida State Prison-East Unit” because it was first only one part of the Florida State Prison originally. The west unit is still a part of the prison too just a different section of it.

The prison is located off State Road 16 across the way from Union County. Florida State prison opened their doors back in 1961. However, construction was not fully complete until 1968.

The prison can hold about 1,400 prisoners. Florida State Prison is just one of a few large prisons in Florida.

Florida State prison alone has three death row cell blocks and is the home of Florida’s execution chamber. Union Correctional Institution and Lowell Annex also houses death row inmates too.

The Florida Department of Corrections has a database open to the public right on their official website to lookup prisoners in the Florida State Prison.

To successfully search the database system, you will need the inmates first and last name or the inmates DC number.

All mail will need to be delivered by United States Postal Service. If mail is sent by another courier, it will be refused.

Inmates shall not be permitted to receive routine mail in boxes, padded envelopes, plastic bags, multi-layer packaging, envelopes that include metal parts, any package containing bubble wrap or packing peanuts, or card stock type envelopes (i.e. U.S. Mail Priority or U.S. Mail Express cardboard type)

Sending money to inmates is easy now. Majority of the ways will be through JPay. If you do not know what Jpay is, it will be your Paypal, but for jail.

There are so many ways to fund money into an inmate’s account using JPay such as giving them a call at (800) 574-5729, download their app for your Android and Apple smartphone, and go online.

However, if you are not completely sold on JPay, you can also head on over to MoneyGram. You will want to head on over here for all MoneyGram locations and do not forget to use the receive code 5188.

Funds will be available in the inmates account between 72 hours.

Visitation

Before one can visit an inmate in the Florida State Prison, they will need to fill out the visitors application that can be found here. The prison itself will NOT notify you of your denial or approval the inmate will. Keep in contact with them while you wait.

Once the visitor application is approved, you will be able to visit on Saturday or Sunday from the hours of 9am to 3pm. You can arrive at the facility any time after 7:30 am.

Registration for visitation starts at 8:15am to 2pm. If you arrive later than 2pm, you will be denied visitation on that day.

How Often Can I Visit?

You can visit on either Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 3pm.

If there is no lockdown and the inmate are in good standing, you will be available to visit on these two days out of the week.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
