The Ada County Jail is in Boise, Idaho. The jail opened their doors back in 1977. The Ada County Jail opened their doors the same time the Ada County-Boise City Public Safety Building opened. 

The Ada County Jail was originally designed to only hold 160 long-term inmates, plus an additional 32 work release prisoners. 

Since the facility first opened their doors, they have expanded a few times. As of current, the facility can hold around 1224 inmates.

Finding an inmate in jail a county jail is usually one of the most difficult tasks you will ever have to do. You end up having to hunt hours on end for the correct number only to be transferred through each department to be disconnected from the call. 

It does not have to be that way anymore. Finding an inmate on the Ada County Jail inmate roster should not have to take forever and a day to do. 

The Ada County Jail is operated by the Ada County Sheriff's Office. They are the agency that is responsible for keeping and maintaining an up to date database of all their inmates are currently in their custody. 

The database is available for the general public to use. You can find the database on the Ada County Sheriff’s official website. 

You can search the database by the inmate’s last name. Once you click search, all inmates with the same last name will appear. You will be able to see the following information:

•    Full Name
•    JID Number
•    Age
•    Arresting Agency
•    Charges
•    Bail Amount

If you need other information that the database does not show, you will have to get in contact with the Ada County Sheriff’s Department.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

Inmates can receive written letters from their family and friends. All incoming mail to the prison will be scanned and checked for money, contraband, escape plains, and another offensive items/writing. 

In the letters to inmates, they can receive standard size photographs. However, they cannot receive stamps, polaroid photographs, and envelopes. The mail you send them cannot contain images or depictions of sexual situations, sexual acts or nudity. Inmates cannot receive the following items either.

•    Harassing or Intimidating Statements
•    Gang-Related Drawings & Writings
•    Coded Messages
•    Plans to violet local, state, federal laws, and jail rules
•    Plans to send in contraband to or from the prison

However, inmates can receive books, magazines, and newspapers. These following items will need to be sent directly to the jail from the bookstore or publisher. All incoming books will need to be paperback. Hardcover books are not permitted.

While inmates are in the Ada County Jail, they will need funds. They will need money for the commissary, paying off fees, and to call home. 

The Ada County Jail provides you with 2 ways you can fund the inmate's account. 

You can come down to the jail in person to fund an inmate's account. The jail will accept debit and credit cards along with cash payments. 

If you don’t live in the Ada County or you do not want to come on down to the jail, you can deposit money directly into their account online. You will have to create an account on Telmate. They only accept credit or debit card payments. To use this service, there will be a fee involved.

Keep in mind when sending money that inmates will always need to have a balance of $15 in their account. This $15 is for medical expenses, if they need to see a doctor. They will not be allowed to touch this money whatsoever.
 

Visitation

Visiting at the Ada County Jail is a bit different than other jails. Ada County Jail only has online visits through the Ada County Jail Video Visitation system. They do NOT have contact visits. Keep in mind, you will be seeing them on screen. You will not be seeing them in person whatsoever. 

If you would like to have a video visit with an inmate, you will have to schedule your appointment online. Visits are by appointments only. 

All inmates will be granted two 25-minute visitation session each week for free. If an inmate would like more visitation, they will have to purchase them for a small fee.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
