About Idaho Department of Correction

The Idaho Department of Correction is responsible for maintaining and keeping records of all inmates serving time in Idaho state prisons. The database provides information on inmates that are currently going through the department of corrections whether they are in prison, on parole, or on probation.

However, inmates that completed their sentence, will still pop up in the database, but their prior convictions will not. You can search the database by their IDOC number and first and last name. If you would like a formal copy of an inmate record, you must send in a written request to:

The county and city jails in Idaho currently keep their own records separate from the states. If you are looking for information on an inmate in a city or county jail, you will need to contact the proper authorities.

How to Do an Inmate Search in Idaho

When an offender is housed in a state prison, they are the property of the Department of Corrections Division. As stated above every state’s Department of Corrections Division has their own jail roster or database that the general public may use.

The Idaho Department of Corrections offender search database can be found on the official Idaho Department of Corrections website.

You can search the inmate list by using the following pieces of information:

The IDOC number will take precedence during all searches. The IDOC is a six-digit number. All incoming inmates will be assigned their IDOC number by the Idaho Department of Corrections. This will be the easiest and quickest way to locate an inmate.

If you decide to enter their IDOC number in the field provided, you will NOT need to enter their first and last name. However, the IDOC field will only show results for the EXACT number you have entered, so you will want to double check, if no results pop up.

If you don’t know the inmate’s IDOC number or there are no search results for the IDOC number you plugged in, the next thing you can do is search by the inmate’s first and last name.

When you finally get some search results, you will see a list of all inmates that fit the criteria you plugged in. This is not a release search. All inmates are currently sitting behind bars.

You will see the following pieces of information in the Idaho jails inmate search:
