The Franklin County Jail is in Benton, Illinois. The jail is managed by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The jail has inmates who are either awaiting trial, sentencing, or a combo of both.
Inmates that are already sentenced are typically held for less than 24-months. Franklin County Jail also accepts inmates from the surrounding towns that do not have their own jail. The inmates are booked and kept until they head to arraignment.

For safety and security purposes, follow these standards when sending mail to inmates through the U.S. Postal Service. Mail that does not meet these standards may be returned to the sender. These requirements do not apply to Legal Mail.
For the safety of our staff and other inmates, all mail will have to be sent through the United States Postal Service. Mail that does not meet the following requirements stated below will be mailed back to sender. However, Legal Mail is not included in this list.
Money can be sent/deposited into an inmate’s account in Franklin County Jail in a few different ways.

You can send money orders to the jail Franklin County Jail using either by snail mail also known as United States Postal Service or Western Union. Money orders cannot be larger than $75. The envelope must have “Inmate Accounting” written on it. Do not put your postcard in this envelope as it will be sent back to you along with the money order.
Any and all visitors wanting to visit an inmate at the Franklin County Jail is required to be on the approved visitation list. This goes for either online visits and visits at the jail.
Appointments need to be made for visits. You must schedule your visit appointment 24-hours prior. You can either schedule online, or by stopping by at the jail. You cannot call the Franklin County Jail to set up an appointment.
Visitation takes place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Inmates who are in maximum-security or being kept in mental health parts of the facility are not permitted to have visitors.
Inmates are permitted 2 30-minute visitation appointments a week while in the Franklin County Jail.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
