AUSP Thomson is commonly referred to as the Administrative United States Penitentiary, Thomson. AUSP Thomson was formerly named Thomson Correctional Center. The facility is a maximum-security federal prison in Illinois.
The facility is situated on 146 acres of land. The facility is composed of 15 buildings. The prison has a 15-foot fence with a 12-foot 7000-volt electric fence behind that topped with razor wire.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons purchased what was known as the Thomson Correctional Center in October of 2012. It costed the Federal Bureau of Prisons $165 million to purchase the Thomson Correctional Center from the state of Illinois. The plan was to transfer prisoners to Thomson Correctional Center from Guantanamo Bay, but Congress was not allowing it.
It was not until August 2014, when the first warden of the prison was announced as Donald Hudson. In 2016, the facility was home to over 100 inmates. It employed around 250 correctional officers. These numbers will continue to rise as the prison is activating many of their plans.
FCI Aliceville is a federal prison. The easiest way to lookup an inmate in federal prisons is going to the BOP website.
They have a database where you can search all federal inmates.
Inmates can receive mail from their family and friends. Inmates can only receive letters. In order for inmates to receive packages, they will need a written approval from their unit supervisor or another authorized prison staff member.
Within these letters’ inmates cannot receive any unused writing paper, stamps, and envelopes. These items are available for purchase by the commissary. Inmates can also not receive written letters that have foreign stains, such as lipstick, cologne, and perfume. Letters like this will be discarded. All incoming mail will be checked for contraband also.

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.
The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.
Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.
All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.
