The Butler County Jail is in El Dorado, Kansas. The facility is just south of the United States Highway 54. The Butler County Jail is also known as the Butler County Adult Detention Facility. 

The facility opened their doors back in January of 2003. The Butler County Jail is a modern jail. It can house up to 230 inmates. The facility employed over 60 jail staff members. 

The inmates in Butler County Jail are not just residences of Butler County. However, they also work closely with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, U.S. Marshal Serve, and other law enforcement agencies.

The Butler County Jail is operated and managed by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department. The Butler County Sheriff’s Department is the agency responsible for keeping and maintaining an up to date database of all current inmates.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

Inmates in the Butler County Jail can receive written letters from their family and friends. These letters will be checked by jail staff upon arrival for safety issues. After the staff examines all of the mail, they will pass them out to the correct inmates. 

When sending items to the prison along with your letters, there are a lot of things you should refrain from sending. Such as the following:

Inmates in the Butler County Jail can also receive books, magazines, and newspapers. The books, magazines, and newspapers will need to be delivered directly to the prison from the bookstore or publisher. All incoming books will be required to be paperback. All hardcover books are prohibited. If a hardcover book is sent, it will be sent back to the sender. Keep in mind that all books will need to be new too. Used books are not permitted.

Inmates in the Butler County Jail will need money to buy items from the commissary. The Butler County Jail has a kiosk in the kiosk in the lobby. The kiosk accepts cash, credit and debit card payments. 

The Butler County Jail does NOT accept any forms of payments through the mail. You will not be able to send any money orders, cashier’s checks, or any other forms of payment.

Visitation

Inmates in the Butler County Jail can receive visitors. Keep in mind that all visitors under the age of 18 will are permitted to visit, but they will need to be accompanied by their legal guardian. All visitors will be required to present either their driver’s license, state identification card, or their United States Passport, before being permitted to visit. 

Remember, all your personal belongings will be required to stay in your car. No personal belongings will be permitted to be in the visitation area. 

The Butler County Jail offers on-site and remote visitors. All visits will be video visits. The Butler County Jail uses the video software from Securus Technologies. 

Inmates are permitted to no more than 3 visits per week (Monday through Friday). The visiting hours on site are the following:

1pm to 4pm

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
