The FCI Sandstone is also referred to as the Federal Correctional Institution, Sandstone. The facility is a low-security federal prison in Minnesota. The FCI Sandstone is home to male inmates. The prison is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

FCI Sandstone also has a high-security wing. This high-security wing is separate from the low-security wings of the prison. The Federal Bureau of Prisons does not usually acknowledge this wing that the FCI Sandstone has. However, the high-security wing comes equipped with gun towers and electric fences. This wing is commonly known as the “snitch unit” as it is home to many high-security inmates who have tattled on other inmates and would be harmed if they stayed in general population.

Inmates in the high-security wing are segregated from the general population, however, they are overseen by the same prison staff.

FCI Sandstone is nearly 100 miles away from St. Paul/Minneapolis and 70 miles away from Duluth, Minnesota. FCI Sandstone is situated in Sandstone, Minnesota.
