There are two High Desert State Prisons in the United States. One of them is in Nevada and the other one is in California. 

The one that is being talked about here is the High Desert State Prison which is situated in Indian Springs, Nevada.  The High Desert State Prison is Nevada's largest correctional facility that the Nevada Department of Corrections currently operates and manages. The facility is also one of the most technologically advanced in the entire United States. The High Desert State Prison is also the reception center for every single prisoner located in the southern portion of Nevada. 

The High Desert State Prison can hold up to 4,200 inmates. While that is a lot of inmates already, the facility is still expanding. The prison is the first facility that is composed of a complex that is slowly transitioning into what will be known as the Southern Nevada Prison Complex. 

The High Desert State Prison is home to inmates in the medium-security levels all the way up to the maximum-security levels. Surrounding the premises of the prison is a lethal electric fence. The facility also has seven-armed guard towers alongside an armed perimeter patrol, with various other forms of electronic detection systems. 

Inmates that currently reside in the High Desert State Prison are housing in one of twelve housing units. These housing units are divided into smaller pods. 

While inmates are serving time at the High Desert State Prison, they can get an education, enroll in vocational training, and even attend substance abuse classes.

When you click on their name, you will see more identifying information, but you will not see what charges they were charged with.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

Inmates in the High Desert State Prison can receive written letters from their family and friends back home. These letters cannot contain any offensive language or have contraband in them. All incoming and outgoing mail will be checked by the prison staff. If items are found in mail and go against the prison protocol it will be properly disposed of. 

Inmates can receive books, magazines, and newspapers through the mail too. The books, magazines, and newspapers are required to mailed directly to the prison from the publisher. You can order these items from sites like Amazon. All books must be new. All books must also be paperback. Hardcover books are not permitted.

While serving time in the High Desert State Prison, inmates will need money for various reasons such as, commissary, telephone use, and messaging use. 

The main way to fund an inmate's account is to utilize the Lockbox Deposit Coupon or you can use the Access Corrections website. 
The Lockbox Deposit Coupon will need to be printed off the Nevada Department of Corrections website. Inmates will also have coupons that they can send you, if you do not have a printer at home. 

Money sent through the Lockbox Deposit Coupon will be subjected to a 14-day hold from the time they receive the cashier’s check or money order. 

To skip the 2-week hold, you can log on to the Access Corrections website and use your debit or credit card to fund the inmate’s account that way. There is a fee to this service, but the inmate will have access to the funds in a timely manner. 

Visitation

All visitors will need to be approved before they can visit. Once you are approved, you can come down during the visiting hours stated above. You will need to bring a government identification card with you to be permitted into the visitation area. Failure to do so will revoke your visitation rights for that day. 

All visitors are required to adhere to the prison dress code. You will need to not wear the following items:

•    Tank Tops
•    See Through Clothing
•    Offensive Clothing

With the High Desert State Prison so large, they broke up their visitation days on different days for different areas of the prison. Here is the most current schedule for visiting the High Desert State Prison.

If you are an inmate’s attorney, you will need to arrange a visit with the warden. Inmates who are currently in the infirmary have visitation on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Inmates who are in disciplinary segregation will only have one visit a month with their immediate family.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
