The Summit County Jail opened their doors back in August of 1990. As of current, the Summit County Jail can house up to 671 inmates at a given time.
The facility works closely with law agencies in and around the Summit County such as police departments, sheriff’s, and even the U.S. Marshals. Most of the inmates in the facility are residences of Summit County. All inmates housed in the facility has a sentenced less than 2 years.

Inmates in the Summit County Jail can receive written letters from their family and friends. These letters will be checked by jail staff upon arrival for safety issues. After the staff examines all the mail, they will pass them out to the correct inmates.

Inmates in the Summit County Jail can also receive books, magazines, and newspapers. The books, magazines, and newspapers will need to be delivered directly to the prison from the bookstore or publisher. All incoming books will be required to be paperback. All hardcover books are prohibited. If a hardcover book is sent, it will be sent back to the sender. Keep in mind that all books will need to be new too. Used books are not permitted.
Inmates in the Summit County Jail will need money either to use the phone or to purchase items from the commissary. There are a few different ways to send money to inmates.

Inmates in the Summit County Jail can receive visitors. Keep in mind that all visitors under the age of 18 will are permitted to visit, but they will need to be accompanied by their legal guardian. All visitors will be required to present either their driver’s license, state identification card, or their United States Passport, before being permitted to visit.
Remember, all your personal belongings will be required to stay in your car. No personal belongings will be permitted to be in the visitation area.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
