FCI Sheridan is commonly referred to as the Federal Correctional Institution, Sheridan. The facility is a medium-security federal prison in Oregon. The prison houses male inmates.

FCI Sheridan opened their doors back in 1989. The prison is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

On the same site as the FCI Sheridan, one can find a detention center. The detention center also houses male inmates. Adjacent to the FCI Sheridan is a minimum-security satellite prison camp. The satellite prison camp also houses male inmates.

FCI Sheridan became the first federal prison in Oregon. Federal prison officials were looking at numerous sites with a proposed budget of $50 million for a minimum and medium-security federal prison around 1985. It was not until August of 1986 when the Federal Bureau of Prisons cleared over 180 acres of land near the city of Sheridan where FCI Sheridan currently resides. The plans were that the minimum-security section would hold 250 inmates, and another minimum-security section would hold an additional 550 inmates. The plans for this facility was going to cost nearly $48 million.

FCI Sheridan opened their doors in May of 1989. George Killinger was the warden during this time. This was Oregon’s first federal prison. It costed the state nearly $52 million to construct. The construction took about two years. It started in 1987. The design was to hold nearly 550 inmates in the actual prison and have another 256 inmates in the satellite prison camp. The prison was built by the Portland’s Hoffman Construction Company.

FCI Sheridan is situated in the northwest portion of Oregon.
