The CI Moshannon Valley is commonly referred to as the Moshannon Valley Correctional Center. The facility is a federal prison that holds men inmates in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. Philipsburg is on the border of Clearfield and Centre counties, but the prison is on the Clearfield county side. The prison is operated and managed by the GEO Group.
CI Moshannon Valley opened their doors in April 2006. Since then the facility has expanded. CI Moshannon Valley was the first private prison opened in Pennsylvania. It is home to low-security inmates. Majority of these inmates are non-violent aliens, who typically have 5 years or less on their sentence.
Back in late 2013, the future of CI Moshannon Valley was held on a contractual decision between the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center and the CI Moshannon Valley.
In late 2014, CI Moshannon Valley had their contract renewed by the government for another 10 years.
Two years later in August 2016, the Justice Department stated that all the contracted prisons under the Federal Bureau of Prisons will be closing their doors. This was because private facilities were not safe, and they provided no real savings.
However, it was not until the next year, where the Federal Bureau of Prisons stated that it is going to allow all federal, private prisons to finish out their contracts.
CI Moshannon Valley is a federal prison. The easiest way to lookup an inmate in federal prisons is going to the BOP website.
They have a database where you can search all federal inmates.
Inmates can receive letter correspondence from their loved ones back home. They can also receive books, magazines, and newspapers too. The books must be sent from the publisher. You can do so by using sites like Amazon. All books sent must be paperback books only. Hardcover books are not permitted.

Your first day in prison, you are bombarded with a ton of information. One booklet you will be giving is the Admissions and Orientation (A&O) Handbook.
This handbook will supply you with general information about the prison itself alongside the prison’s rules, programs, and regulations you will have to follow while you are serving out your sentence.
It will be in your best interest to familiarize yourself with a handbook as it is your responsibility to transition smoothly to prison life.
The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.
The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.
Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.
All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.
Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.
There are also many opportunities to be taken advantage of to afford the proposal of legal documents when behind bars.
All procedures for legal activities can be located here.
Visitation is also permitted at the CI Moshannon Valley. All visitors will need the proper identification to be permitted to the visitation area. You can supply a social security card, state identification card, and driver’s license.
