FCI Loretto started construction back in 1985. The building was constructed on land that was currently being used by St. Francis Seminary between the 50s to the 70s. There were around 15 inmates from FPC Allenwood that helped aid the construction of FCI Loretto. Many of these inmates were involved in the ABSCAM scandal.

FCI Loretto is situated in the southwest portion of Pennsylvania. It is around 90 miles east of Pittsburgh.

In 2016, majority of inmates all had illegal drugs sentences. The average sentence in FCI Loretto is around 12 years. However, there are a lot of life sentences too.
