FCC Allenwood is commonly known as the Federal Correctional Complex, Allenwood. It is a part of the United States Federal complex and opened in 1992. FCC Allenwood is nestled 75 miles north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is home to male prisoners in Pennsylvania. 

The FCC Allenwood is three facilities. One of them is the is United States Penitentiary Allenwood. 

USP Allenwood is a high-security federal prison. It was opened in 1993. The United States Penitentiary Allenwood can hold up to 806 inmates. The population consists of male offenders. The facility is operated and maintained by Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

Do NOT send money to an inmate using the USP Allenwood address. All funds sent through the mail must be addressed to a processing center in Des Moines, Iowa. This applies to all Federal inmates, regardless of where they are incarcerated.

Email

The last way to stay in touch with an inmate at USP Allenwood is through email. Email is also through Trulincs.

The email program is funded by the inmate trust fund, which is kept up with purchases from the commissary, the telephone service, and fees paid directly to Trulincs.

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions. 

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs. 

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

Visitation

To visit an inmate serving time in the USP Allenwood, you first must be put on their approved list.

When an inmate first comes to the USP Allenwood, they fill out a visitor form. When they complete their share, a form is mailed off to those individuals who were listed on the visitor form and send it back to the facility. The facility may call and request more background information, if needed.

Dress Code

When visiting the facility, please dress appropriately. No miniskirts, halter tops, or other clothes not suitable for a job interview. If such clothing is worn, you will be denied visitation.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.

Prison Life

FCC Allenwood offers their inmates a variety of programs can take advantage of.  They are not limited to:

FCC Allenwood has a variety of vocational and occupational programs to help inmates gain a skill that they can use on the outside. Their individual programs include Fiber Optics, Culinary, Office Automation, Computer Internet Computing Core Certification, and housekeeping.

At FCC Allenwood they have what is known as a Residential Drug Abuse Program. The program is completely voluntary. It is a treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Prisoners that are in the Residential Drug Abuse Program lives in another housing unit for at least nine months. However, the prisoners need to do at least 500 hours of the program, which is composed of group and one-on-one group therapy.

Inmates also can have jobs in FCC Allenwood too. Inmates jobs can consist of Dimensional Mill, who offers assembly, office work, sanding, shipping, and machining. This allows inmates to get paid an hourly rate, which can be used to acquire things from the commissary.

The commissary is available to shop in once a week on the inmates designated day. Inmates have a $360 monthly spending limit.
