FCI Bennettsville is commonly known as the Federal Correctional Institution, Bennettsville. FCI Bennettsville is an adult male prison. The facility security level is medium. It is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The prison also includes a minimum-security satellite camp adjacent from the main building.

The prison is in Marlboro County, South Carolina. Marlboro County is situated in the northeast section of South Carolina. The prison is 70 miles from Myrtle beach and 100 miles from the state capital, Columbia.

The main campus can hold up to 1,800 male offenders. Currently, the prison is home to nearly 1,500 male inmates total. There are 1,300 male inmates living in the main campus alongside 143 male inmates located in the satellite camp.

The prison sites on around 670 acres of land. There is about 50 acres inside the perimeter fence. The satellite camp is situated near the right-hand side of the main campus. The satellite camp consists of the mechanics garage, warehouse, and facility maintenance garage.

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions. 

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs. 

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

Visitation

To visit an inmate serving time in the FCI Bennettsville, you first must be put on their approved list.

When an inmate first comes to the FCI Bennettsville, they fill out a visitor form. When they complete their share, a form is mailed off to those individuals who were listed on the visitor form and send it back to the facility. The facility may call and request more background information, if needed.

Visitation is also available on Friday from 5pm to 8pm, Saturdays, Sunday, and Federal Holidays from 8am to 3pm. You must be on the inmates approved visiting list before you will be allowed on the premises. There is a max limit of 3 adults that can visit at a time.

Dress Code

When visiting the facility, please dress appropriately. No miniskirts, halter tops, or other clothes not suitable for a job interview. If such clothing is worn, you will be denied visitation.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
