The Tennessee Department of Corrections is the agency responsible for keeping and maintaining an updated database of all offenders doing time in Tennessee state prisons.
The database is open to the public and can be found on the Tennessee Department of Corrections website. The database consists of inmates who are currently sitting in jail, on parole, and on probation.
The database is also on a smartphone app called Tennessee Felony Offender Search Mobile App. You can search the database by the offenders first and last name, Their TOMIS ID, or their state ID.
Unlike the state of Tennessee, Tennessee county and city jails keep their own databases separate. If you are looking for an inmate sitting in a county or city jail, you will need to reach out to the proper authorities.

When an offender is housed in a state prison, they are property of the Department of Corrections Division. As stated above every state’s Department of Corrections Division has their own jail roster or database that the general public may use.
The Tennessee Department of Corrections offender search database can be found on the official Tennessee Department of Corrections website.
You can search the inmate list by using the following pieces of information:
• First Name
• Last Name
• Race
• TOMIS ID
• SID
The TOMIS ID number will take precedence during all searches. The TOMIS ID is a six-digit number. All incoming inmates will be assigned their TOMIS ID number by the Tennessee Department of Corrections. This will be the easiest and quickest way to locate an inmate.
If you decide to enter their TOMIS ID number in the field provided, you will NOT need to enter their first and last name. However, the TOMIS ID field will only show results for the EXACT number you have entered, so you will want to double check, if no results pop up.
If you don’t know the inmate’s TOMIS ID number or there are no search results for the TOMIS ID number you plugged in, the next thing you can do is search by the inmate’s first and last name.
When you finally get some search results, you will see a list of all inmates that fit the criteria you plugged in. This is not a release search. All inmates are currently sitting behind bars.
You will see the following pieces of information in the Tennessee jails inmate search:
• Inmate Name
• Aliases
• TOMIS ID
• Birth Date
• Race
• Sex
• Supervision Status
• Location
• Sentence Begin
• Sentence End
• Parole Eligibility
• Parole Hearing
• Hearing Result
