Harris County Jail serves Harris County, Texas. It is the main jail of the county and is in Houston, Texas. The jail is situated in the peninsula in northern Downtown Houston. Even though the jail serves Harris County, however, Joe Kegans State Jail is also in the Harris County Jail Complex. Right next to the Harris County Jail Complex is the Harris County District Court.
The 701 jail is a large detention facility. The jail can hold up to 4,144 inmates. The jail opened their doors in the late 1920s.
The Harris County Jail offers the public an online record database for those looking to search for inmates that are in the Harris County Jail. You can do an inmate search by using their SPN, social security number, first and last name, or by their date of birth.
When looking through the roster, you will be able to find their SPN, what charges they have, and what prison facility they are currently in.
All incoming mail is required to have the inmates full name, SPN, and their housing unit and cell block location along with the sender’s full information (name and address). If any incoming mail does not have the above information, it will be sent back to the sender.
All mail coming into the prison is inspected by the jail staff. Letters sprayed with perfume, makeup, lipstick, or anything else will automatically be sent back to the sender.
You can send inmates 2 paperback books with 4 magazines at a time. Hardback books are not allowed. Books must be new and sent directly from the publisher.

Lobby Machines
The 701 Jail and the 1200 Jail both have deposit machines in their lobbies. You will need to know the inmates full name and their SPN to use this service.
Online
You can fund an inmate's account using TouchPay website. Deposits made this way are posted to the account instantly. Keep in mind there is a fee for this service.
Telephone
You can make deposits by calling TouchPay at 1-866-232-1899. They accept debit and credit card payments. You will need to know the inmates full name and their SPN. With this service, there will be a fee involved, and you can only deposit up to $100.
Western Union
You can also deposit money by using Western Union. You can either go to their kiosks, call them at 1-800-643-3422, or on the internet. The maximum deposit you can do by either phone or online is $300. There is also a service fee involved with this service.
You will need to know the inmates full name, their SPN, and the code city, which is ITF-Texas.
Ace Cash Express
You can deposit money using Ace Cash Express by going into one of their 1485 stores. This service only accepts cash, no credit or debit card payments allowed. The maximum amount you can send is $1,000. There is also a fee for this service.
Mail
You can mail money orders and cashier’s checks to the prison itself. They must be payable to the “Inmate Trust Fund” along with their name and SPN at the bottom. If they are not made payable to the “Inmate Trust Fund”, they will be sent back to the sender. You can send the cashier checks and money orders to the following address:

Visitation is a privilege in Harris County Jail. Visitation can be provoked without any warning. Visitors must have their government ID on them to be permitted into the visiting area. Inmates allowed to have 2 adults and 2 children visiting at a time. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors must adhere to jails dress code.
Inmates can have one 20-minute visit daily.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
