The email program is funded by the inmate trust fund, which is kept up with purchases from the commissary, the telephone service, and fees paid directly to Trulincs.

Emails are monitored and screened for content not suitable for them.

Admissions and Orientation Handbook

Your first day in prison, you are bombarded with a ton of information. One booklet you will be giving is the Admissions and Orientation (A&O) Handbook.

This handbook will supply you with general information about the prison itself alongside the prison’s rules, programs, and regulations you will have to follow while you are serving out your sentence.

It will be in your best interest to familiarize yourself with handbook as it is your responsibility to transition smoothly to prison life.

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

There are also many opportunities to be taken advantage of to afford the proposal of legal documents when behind bars.

All procedures for legal activities can be located here.

Visitation

Visitors will need to be put on the inmates approved visitors list. You can do this by going to the official Federal Bureau of Prisons website and completing the form there. Once the form is approved, you will be permitted to visit the inmate. Keep in mind that everyone over the age of 16 must be on the list. Everyone over the age of 16 will also need to supply either a driver’s license or a state identification card to be permitted into the visitation area.

Visiting hours do differ when it comes to the main campus and the satellite prison camp.

Prison Life

Inmates on the main campus are housed in four housing units. Within these housing units, there are either individual cells or two-person cells. Inmates will either have their own cell, or they will have to share a cell with one of their fellow inmates.

Inmates housed in the satellite prison camp are in dormitories. Within these dormitories, you will find four-person cells. There are no other size of cells. Inmates will have to share their space with three of their fellow inmates.

FCI Oxford offers their inmates a variety of programs and services they can use. These include, but not limited to the following:

•    Jewish Services and Programs
•    Medical Services
•    Psychology Services
•    Library Services
•    Recreational Programs
•    Religious Services
•    GED Prep
•    Residential Drug Abuse Program
•    Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program
•    Drug Abuse Education
•    English-as-a-Second Language Program
•    Adult Continuing Education
•    Vocational Training
•    Apprenticeship Program
•    Commissary
•    UNICOR Factory

Keep in mind that the main campus houses the Residential Drug Abuse Program. The satellite prison camp does not house this program. However, the satellite prison camp does offer the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program. The Residential Drug Abuse Program at the FCI Oxford is very hard to get into as it is a heavily sought-after program. If successfully completed, the program can reduce an inmate's sentence by one year.
