FPC Montgomery is commonly known as the Federal Prison Camp, Montgomery. The facility is a minimum-security federal prison in Alabama. The prison is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. 

The FPC Montgomery also has a second name. It is also known as the Maxwell Federal Prison Camp. Whether you know it as the Montgomery Federal Prison Camp or the Maxwell Federal Prison Camp, it is all the same place. Majority of the inmates housed in FPC like this prison camp. 

Majority of prisoners housed in FPC Montgomery is drug offenders with no history of violence. However, some of the other inmates have been charged with white-collar crimes. These crimes typically include wire fraud, mail fraud, tax fraud, security fraud, and so on. 

The facility only holds male inmates. These inmates typically only have a 10 year or less sentence.

Admissions and Orientation Handbook

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions. 

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs. 

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop. 

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public. 

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

Visitation

Inmates can have visits with their family and friends also. However, all visitors over the age of 16 years old, must be put on their approved list. You can get yourself on the approved list through the Federal Bureau of Prisons official website. 

Everyone over the age of 16 must have a photo identification card to be permitted into the visitation area. Those without the proper photo identification card, will be denied.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.

Prison Life

FPC Montgomery has three housing units for their inmates. The housing units are made into dorms. In these dorms are many two-person cells. There are no individual cells for inmates.

Please note that the Residential Drug Abuse Program is hard to get into as there are only so many spots available. The program can reduce up to a year off the inmate’s sentence, if they complete the program successfully.
