Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.

Legal Activities

Even when in prison, you may still need legal counsel. There are strict procedures one will have to follow to obtain legal reference materials alongside their legal counsel.

There are also many opportunities to be taken advantage of to afford the proposal of legal documents when behind bars.

Prison Life

FCI Milan offers their inmates the Residential Drug Abuse Program. The Residential Drug Abuse Program is a program where inmates will have to complete 500-hours of residential programs requirements. Inmates are then eligible to have their sentenced reduced by a year or half a year if they are in a halfway house. The Residential Drug Abuse Program is very hard to get into with its increasing popularity. Those in the program will be housed away from the general population.

FCI Milan also offers the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program for those inmates that are interested in that.

The FCI Milan also offers their inmates the Life Connections Program. This program is an 18-month residential multi-faith restorative justice program. This program is only offered in four other federal prisons. This program is to stop the inmate from repeating the same crime, but also bringing peace to the victim.

FCI Milan partners with the Milan High School. This allows inmates that do not have a high school diploma an opportunity to earn their very own high school diploma. FCI Milan is the only federal prison that offers this opportunity.
