FCI Spring is in Big Spring, Texas. It is halfway between El Paso and Dallas. The town is also home to the Big Spring Correctional Center, which is owned and operated by Geo Group. FCI Big Spring and Big Spring Correctional Center are often confused with one another. However, both FCI Big Spring and Big Spring Correctional Center repurposed the old Webb Air Force Base buildings.

FCI Big Spring is situated on 98 acres of land. This land was once the Webb Air Force Base that closed back in 1977. FCI Big Spring has three open bay housing buildings, which consists of two for the main campus and one at the satellite camp.

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.
