FCI Seagoville is commonly referred to as the Federal Correctional Institution, Seagoville. The facility is a low-security federal prison in Texas.  The FCI Seagoville is home to male inmates. The prison is operated and managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Adjacent to the FCI Seagoville is a minimum-security satellite prison camp. There is also a detention center. The satellite prison camp and the detention center are home to male inmates.

On October 10, 1940, the Federal Reformatory for Women opened their doors. The Federal Reformatory for Women was what we call now FCI Seagoville. Back in the 40s, the facility was converted into a center for the Federal Detention Station. The facility was monitored by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. It was housing Germans, Italians, and Japanese descent people that were being classified as “enemy aliens.”  It was not until June 1945 when the facility finally shut their doors.

It was not until after the end of World War II that the facility transferred over to a minimum-security federal prison. In 1969, the facility was only housing young male inmates that were sentenced with the Youth Corrections Act. During this time the maximum age of the inmates was 27 years old.

10 years later in 1979, the prison converted into a Federal Prison Camp. Two years later in 1981, they installed a perimeter fence and then converted itself into the Federal Correctional Institution.  The Federal Detention Center opened their doors in 1996.

FCI Seagoville is nearly 11 miles away from Downtown Dallas.

Commissary

The commissary was founded in 1930 by the Department of Justice. The Commissary was placed in all Federal Institutions.

The commissary allows inmates to shop for “luxury” items while they are in prison. Funds are typically deposited by their friends, families, and their prison jobs.

Inmates have a spending limit of $360 per month. The commissary is only open on a designated day of the week where they can utilize the shop.

All federal prisons have their commissary list with prices available to the public.

All procedures for legal activities can be located here.
